A fair question from Acercampestre -- I don't believe the city has yet answered this question or has announced any program to deflect graffiti abuse. A good graffiti removal crew and much energy reacting by painting over the eyesores (some) but layer after layer of paint on buildings does not go directly to the issue...it is just another paint job.
In a 7Days article on the graffiti problem several months ago, which should be in their archives, they wrote about how the City dealt with a wave of graffiti a decade or so previously. My property was tagged back then The City took more of a social outreach approach I believe. It was successful. The paint solution just seem to creat new canvases
There are two components of the graffiti problem, clean up and enforcement. My staff that use SeeClickFix represents only one of them, the clean up.
The other systems you mention are still available as a resource but with more than a 30% reduction in the police force in the last year, even fewer taggers are being identified and referred to the community justice program.
Start sending these pictures and write to our representatives, Peter Walsh and Patrick Leahy. Both have websites.
It’s the only way, go straight to a Washington. They need to see and hear what is happening from us in Burlington so they can contact our mayor and city councilors.
Bill and his team do a great job but they can’t do it alone.
